Families that ‘juice’ together

Juicing is something we try to do each morning as a family on an empty stomach, before breakfast. There are many health benefits; it gives the digestive system a break, all nutrients go directly to where the body needs them and we find juicing, after fasting, helps us stay fuller throughout the day.

My son Maximilian helps us to push the fruit and veg through the machine and is highly entertained by this activity. Aria, daughter number one, has the juice diluted with water because she is still little. It feels good when you know your children have ingested enough vitamins and nutrients from fruit and vegetables before the day has even started.

Our juice machine has been in constant use for two years now and is in perfectly good working order.


There are so many health benefits to juicing fruit and vegetables, listing some of them below:

Health and Antioxidants

Who doesn’t want to look and feel good?

When your body is nourished and hydrated, you have all the vitamins and minerals you needs. Your hair, skin and eyes will sparkle and glow. Juicing also prevents ageing and acne.

A healthy, balanced diet, alongside juicing will clear your skin and blemishes will to diminish. Your body is like a car that needs to be filled with the right fuel.

Juicing will help you to regulate your blood sugar levels when drinking more vegetable and fruit juice.

I’ve started to sleep much better since we started juicing, I believe all nutrients in vegetables and fruit juices play an enormous part in this.

We all know that antioxidants are good for us.

But why?

Antioxidants help your body to prohibit the oxidation of other molecules in your body. Too many free radicals can sometimes damage parts of cells or cell membranes and cause diseases as cancer, asthma, diabetes, dementia and eye diseases.

Fruit and vegetables which include lots of antioxidants are; pomegranates, spinach, broccoli, red grapes, orange, lemons, apples, beetroot, carrots and kale. There are many fruits and veg with other health benefits – but these are our favourites.


Energy boost

I now look forward to my energy juice instead of a coffee in the morning. My wife prepares my concoction for me. We started this ritual when my son was born about 3 years ago, to give her enough energy to deal with a new born, breastfeeding and sleep deprivation. I was always complaining about tiredness until she introduced this energy juice.

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t believe juice could give you such an energy but, boy, was I wrong?

You don’t realise how good you feel with it until you’re without it!

6 stalks of celery
1 large cucumber
2 medium sized apples
A handful of coriander
2 lemons
a knob of fresh ginger

This will give you about a pint and a half of  juice.
